Good investment to my child critical thinking and problem solving skills

We fell in love with this book series. After reviewing the book 2, we decided to go through book 1 and make up the skills we may miss. We have used it for about 2 weeks - another great workbook by Singapore Math. My child likes his Beestar dot org online programs. The program gives wide range of questions to test their fully understanding and problem solving skills through real life math questions. This book series provide similar type of problems with more practice. We used this book as our additional math practice. Unlike other books for little kids, the solid content has full of little challenges to the young minds. Similar as Beestar, this book practice your kid thinking and problem solving skills through the questions that are rich in problem types and variety. I can tell my child progressed significantly in his Beestar math ranking. We love Singapore Math. Highly recommend the series to others.

These are great! Very nice word problems that are more fun than the drill and kill workbooks. Makes the kids use their brains to come up with thoughtful math answers.

Love this math book

Love this math book! My son does not use Singapore, we use Miquon Math as our main math program, but the Miquon books lack word problems so I picked this up as a supplement. Very pleased with it. My son is advanced in math for his age, even with the complex concepts presented through Miquon, but the problems in this Singapore book really make him think. I read the problems to him (since he just turned 7 and his reading level is not as strong as his math skills), and he can usually rattle off the answer immediately, but it's an entirely different story for him to understand how to write it down and show his work. That's been very valuable in using this book. It requires him to show his work instead of just coming to the answer mentally. It's a very good balance to our Miquon math books.

Another great book!

This is the second book in The Sins & Scandals series and features Spencer Kingsley, Earl of Huntsleigh and Lady Caelie Laytham, two characters introduced in An Invitation to Scandal. Like the first book, I couldn't put it down and was immediately rooting for these two characters to have their HEA. The plot felt fresh and took some turns I didn't expect, while the main characters were multi-dimensional and the dialogue was witty and drew me even further into the story. I also loved the addition of all the secondary characters, especially Marcus. This author has become an auto-buy for me, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

It's always those who have it all figured out, who discover how deeply they've deceived themselves

Kelly Boyce's second novel in the Sins and Scandals series showcases her two best aspects from her previous books -- scenes between the hero and heroine that go in directions the reader isn't expecting, and the delightful scenes between the hero and his male friends. Other reviewers have mentioned this before, and I'll add my voice to theirs: Boyce excels at the banter between men, so much so that I remember those scenes best of all.

Her hero Spence is my absolute favorite type of Regency rake, someone who charms me as I'm reading, even as the heroine gives her best efforts to resist him within the story. Not only does every page where Spence appears crackle with masculine appeal, but he harbours a childhood tragedy, something that turns his carefree sexiness into poignant vulnerability.

Heroine Lady Caelie seems more like you and me than many fictional women from this period. Her courageous efforts to keep reaching for the life she deserves but has always been denied really had me rooting for her and Spencer to make a relationship out of their unfortunate turn of events. I found myself admiring the way Caelie handled the scenes between herself and the hero, which usually went in directions I hadn't thought they would go.

A SCANDALOUS PASSION really soars once Spencer's childhood friends Bowen and Nicholas make their appearances about halfway through the book. Boyce has a gift with secondary characters, which serves to make the world of the hero and heroine that much richer. I love it when romances are laced with troubled pasts, when the story squeezes my heart before making me smile at 'The End'. Boyce does all of these things with a writing style that mirrors the authentic core of Lady Caelie and the irresistible charm of Spencer.

Grade 1-5?Yep presents a polished, touching retelling of a story he calls "a Southern Chinese version of a traditional Chinese tale." When a poor farmer falls into the clutches of a dragon, he begs each of his seven daughters to save him from death by marrying the horrifying creature. At last, the youngest consents. The dragon carries Seven (the daughters are named in birth order, following Chinese tradition) to his home under the sea. Far from being frightened, Seven is full of wonder. When she tells the dragon, "The eye sees what it will, but the heart sees what it should," the monster turns into a handsome prince. They live happily until Seven longs to return home. There, her jealous third sister tries to drown her and takes her place as mistress of the dragon's palace. Then the Prince must go searching for his lost bride. Lavish, hyperrealistic paintings appear opposite each page of text, with two wordless double-page spreads interspersed. However, few of the paintings begin to capture the shivery wonder of the narrative. Most are too literal to illuminate the mood of the story, and leave little scope for the imagination. In the version included in Betsy Hearne's Beauties and Beasts (Oryx, 1993), the monster bridegroom is a snake. Here, the snake transforms itself into a dragon, increasing the excitement and danger. The farmer's only chance lies in convincing one of his seven daughters to marry the dragon. Readers familiar with fairy tales may guess that the youngest and prettiest daughter, who was the serpent's savior, will agree to the marriage to save her father. In this Chinese variant of "Beauty and the Beast," dragon and girl soar into the night sky and then plunge into a deep sea, where the girl's courage and character are tested again before she discovers that her future husband is a handsome human and ruler of the sea kingdom. After spending some time in her husband's kingdom, she visits her family's home, where both her inner and her outward strength are further tested. Mak's illustrations dramatically combine realism and fantasy. The suspense of the story and the charm of its language should appeal to readers of different ages. A good choice for reading aloud. A Chinese fairy tale story.

An excellent book on Chinese fairy tales about a Prince/Dragon and a poor, but skilled and beautiful peasant girl. It contains exquisite illustrations that captured my preschool and grade school daughters attention. I highly recommend this fantasy book for preschoolers, through grades three. The reading level and some content (reasoning) for older grades. Recommended for students, teachers, and parents.

I read this ONCE when I was a little girl and never forgot it. So I was thrilled when I saw it on Amazon. The book got to me in good shape and right away. The illustrations are truly beautiful, some breathtaking and the story is a lovely example of Chinese folklore as retold by Lawrence Yep. My childhood recollections were not let down. Five stars!
